Yale affiliates currently working on projects in the Boreal include….
Jill Kelly PhD ‘18: Works with Professor Tim Gregoire and Peter Umunay (F&ES PhD ‘19), using statistics to compute estimates of forest biomass from height measurements taken by airborne LiDAR. Jill’s current project explores the influence of spatial aggregation on biomass estimates for a forest in southern Norway. She also researches problems of scale and change-of-support that might arise when combining LiDAR point clouds with other remotely sensed data. This is the page of their collaborators in Norway.
Yale students and alumni who have previously worked on projects in the Boreal:
John Zasada M.F. ‘62: Conducted silviculture and tree biology research at Institute of Northern Forestry, Fairbanks AK from 1967-1985. At present he periodically teaches Scandinavian birch bark weaving at The Folk School in Fairbanks AK. References to his publications can be found from the Pacific Northwest Research Station, USDA Forest Service.
